Feb. 1, 2013 Gordon Ray Delmarter, 82, of Ionia, passed away peacefully on Jan. 30, 2013 after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Eugenia Delmarter, and his sister, Dorothy Knopf. Gordon was born on Feb. 27, 1930 in Okemos, Mich. During the Korean War, he served as a Quartermaster on board both the USS Essex and USS Curtis, where he received the naval honor of Meritorious Mast for his exceptional service. After the Navy, he was involved in banking and insurance sales. He was an active member of the Albion Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. Gordon was an avid reader and history buff. He also had a great love of researching genealogies. He was proud of the fact that six of his ancestors arrived on the Mayflower. Gordon was survived by his wife, Roberta (First- Delmarter); mother of his children, Mary (Corn-Delmarter); children, Ronald (Renae)Delmarter, Charles Delmarter, and Julie (Todd) Simpson; grandchildren, Ashley Delmarter, Kevin Delmarter, Trey Delmarter, Madison Delmarter, Nathan Simpson and Zachary Simpson; brother-in-law, Stanley Knopf; and sister, Barbara Jean (Robert) Ward; as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at LeValley United Methodist Church, East David Hwy., Ionia, MIch., at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb.
