All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sandy Heintzelman sheintz@iserv.net May 19, 2011, 11:29 am Lake Odessa Wave, 10 Jul 1941 Clayborn Demaray, 48, a former Lake Odessa resident, who has been living at 528 North Sycamore street in Lansing, was killed instantly shortly after 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, when the car in which he was riding was struck broadside at the intersection of Saginaw street and Hayford avenue in that city. City police said that the victim was riding with Mrs. Bertha Coontz, 36, of 1328 Roosevelt avenue. The Coontz machine was going south on Hayford avenue and as it was crossing Saginaw street, it was struck by another car driven by Edward A. Laboda, Jr., of 614 Holmes road, police said. Demaray was thrown from the Coontz car to the pavement and was killed. Mrs. Coontz suffered a lacerated back, and Merle Demaray, 44, of 528 North Sycamore street, suffered lacerations over the right eye. Both were removed to Edward W. Sparrow hospital. Police said that upon her release from the hospital, Mrs. Coontz will be questioned concerning the accident. Coroner Gorsline is investigating the accident. Funeral services were held form the Wortley & Baine chapel here Thursday afternoon with the Rev. Edward H. Humphrey of Saranac officiating. Interment was made in Lakeside cemetery. The deceased was born in Carlton township on May 25, 1893, and had lived in Lansing for the past 14 years. He had been employed at the Motor Wheel corporation. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Clara Gilliland and Miss Delores Demaray; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Demaray of Lake Odessa; a brother Merle of Lansing; a sister Mrs. Ethel Wolcutt of Charlotte, and four stepchildren, Mrs. Dorothy Weller, Mrs. Verna Andrews, Edward Scott and Ernest Vale, all of Lansing. Merle Demaray was able to be moved Tuesday evening to the home of his parents in Lake Odessa where he is being cared for.
