Sally Ann Thompson was born in Pittstown, N.Y., on Jan. 5, 1828. She was eldest in a family of three children. At the early age of 12 years she joined with her Master in the sacred rite of baptism. When she had reached the 16th year, she came with her father’s family to Michigan, locating on a farm about two miles west of this city’s limits, in the early forties, known in the early days as the Allen Thompson farm, thus being numbered among the first settlers in this section. In 1846 she was married to Clark L. Demorest, founded their new home at that time on what is still known as the Demorest farm, located in the western part of this city, where they reared a family of five children, the eldest of whom resides in Lansing, the remaining four being residents of this city. Soon after the death of her husband, which occurred about five years ago, Mrs. Demorest and her daughter, Clara, moved to Belding, which place has since been her home, until early Sunday morning, when she departed for the higher life. Deceased was beloved and esteemed by all who knew her and leaves a sister, five children, many grandchildren, one great-grandchild, besides a host of friends and acquaintances to mourn their loss. Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ yesterday at 10 o’clock in the forenoon, conducted by Rev. J. C. Meese. Interment in the Otisco cemetery.
