Haight For the second time in little over a year death from heart trouble visited the home of Chandler Haight, Lovell place. Mrs. Fred Dengate, who had been housekeeper for Mr. Haight since Mrs. Haight’s death a year ago in January, was found dead in her bed Thursday morning. Mrs. Dengate had suffered from heart trouble for a number of years, but seemed to be considerably better during the past few months. Her death came quietly during the night; apparently without suffering. William Haight, oldest son of Mr. Haight, came in late and stated that he heard Mrs. Dengate move in bed some time after 12 o’clock. This morning when Mr. Haight called to her she did not answer, so he at once called his sister-in-law, Miss Helen Fanning, who went into Mrs. Dengate’s room and found that death had come. Dr. F. M. Marsh stated that her death had come like the breaking of a thread. Mrs. Dengate was born in London, Ontario and had been a resident of Ionia for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Dengate moved to Detroit a few years ago and his death occurred there three years ago last March. Mrs. Dengate returned to Ionia and had been with Mr. Haight and family for a little over a year. The death of Mrs. Dengate has brought sadness to the members of Ionia Shrine, Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem, No. 41, of which she was to have been a candidate at the meeting tonight. Mrs. Dengate had been a member of Queen Esther chapter, Order of Eastern Star, for many years and was one of the most active members of the chapter. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Don McVeigh, South Ionia, a daughter-in- law, Mrs. Alice Dengate, North Dexter street, and two sisters, Mrs. Chris Pink and Mrs. Clara Wansley, both of London, Ontario. The funeral for Mrs. Dengate will be held from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leon McVeigh, South Ionia, Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Rev. Joseph H. Green of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate. The Ionia County News, Thursday, June 26, 1924 Mrs. Fred Dengate, housekeeper at the home of Chandler Haight of Lovell Place, was found dead in bed on Thursday morning of this week, apparently having died sometime during the night.
