Denis, age 48, of Six Lakes, formerly of Portland and Ionia, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009. She was born on Feb. 12, 1961 in Lansing, the daughter of Charles and Alfreda (Loomis) Hoppes. She attended Portland and Ionia area schools, and graduated from Ionia High School in 1979. She exchanged wedding vows with Stephen J. Denis on Sept. 29, 1979, and enjoyed 30 years of marriage. The couple shared everything and worked together for nearly thirty years in their Belding restaurant business, “Your House of Pizza”. In addition to being a dedicated business woman, she volunteered for a time at Greenville Hospital, and she had a great sense of humor. Karen also enjoyed staying on the cutting edge of health related topics and researched the latest in vitamins, supplements, diseases and treatments for herself and her friends and family. Karen is survived by her dear husband, Steve, siblings, Vicky (Mick) Kemp of Ionia, Randy (Carol) Hoppes of Muir, Bonnie (Dan) McGraw of Lyons, and Steven Hoppes of Lyons; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Mark (Zulma) Denis of Miami, Fla., Thomas Denis of Ionia, Theresa (Chuck) Towersey of Rockford, Suzanne (Mike) Crofoot of White Cloud, Christopher Denis of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Annette (Joe) Smith of Mesa, Ariz., Jacqueline Denis of Lansing and Jeanette Denis of Greenville; many nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Marian Adams-Huntley. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009 at Green Corners Baptist Church, 4998 West Belding Road, Belding, with Pastor Paul Leslie officiating. Visitation will take place at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, on Tuesday, Dec. 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The family will also greet visitors at the church for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
