Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Friday, April 20, 1917

The funeral service for Mrs. Richard Denning took place on Monday at the home 
of S.M. Thurston. Interment was in Highland Park cemetery. Rev. E.E. Branch 
officiated.

Mrs. Denning was the wife of Richard Denning, formerly of Ionia but now of 
Battle Creek, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.M. Thurston. She passed away after 
an illness of only three weeks with inflammatory rheumatism, her condition not 
being considered serious till a short time before she expired, when the ailment 
went to her heart. Her death was a great shock to her husband and friends, who 
had hopes of her recovery, and to her mother who was with her during her entire 
illness.

Deceased was nineteen years of age and died April 13 - a sad coincidence, that 
being her husband's twenty-first birthday. The remains wee brought to Ionia for 
burial.

She was a member of Mrs. Branch's Sunday school class for three years and her 
bright and sunny disposition won for her many friends, who mourn her early 
demise. She was married to Richard Denning January 31, 1914, in Battle Creek, 
the ceremony being performed at the house of Mr. and Mrs. Norman, uncle and 
aunt, who came to attend the funeral.

The floral offerings were many and beautiful, showing the high esteem in which 
she was held. The bearers were George Green, L.J. Tafel, Sam Loveland, Bert 
Haight, C. Grant and A. Pease. The bereaved husband and parents have the 
sympathy of their many friends.
