Densmore, eighty, and one of the pioneer residents of Easton township, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nellie A. Arnold, of this city Sunday evening, a victim of paralysis. Cornelius E. Densmore was born in Conway County, New York August 23, 1834. In 1836 he came with his parents to Easton Township and settled on the farm now known as the Inman farm. The reformatory now stands on a corner of the farm. Mr. Densmore was married to Adelia M. Smith August 23, 1858 and his married life was spent on a farm located on section 39 Easton Township. To the union was born six children all of whom still survive. They are Clarke E. Densmore of Bellaire, Emory C. Densmore of Harbor Springs, Max R. Densmore of Ionia, Allen S. and Willie E. Densmore of Saranac and Mrs. Nellie A. Arnold of this city and brother Andrew F. Densmore of Washington, D. C. and one sister Mrs. Louisa Conner of Ithaca, Michigan also survive him. Mr. Densmore was an active member of the Methodist church in Easton at which place he led class meetings for many years. He owned and operated the first steam thrasher that came into Easton township and has at different times thrashed on almost every farm between Saranac and Belding. He was well known by all the pioneer residents of Orleans, Easton and Otisco townships. He served 3 years and 5 months in the Civil War, and was a prisoner in Andersonville for over six months. Brief funeral services were held here at ten o’clock this Wednesday morning in charge of Rev. A. J. Blair after which the remains were taken to Saranac for fuller services at two o’clock. Interment was made in the Saranac Cemetery. Mr. Densmore was a highly respected citizen and a faithful and devoted husband and father.
