He was 57 years of age and has been a shop foreman for the Pere Marquette in the Wyoming shops. He has been with the P.M. for the past 25 years. The funeral services will be held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon from the South Congregation church, Grand Rapids....(portion illegible)… Gus Derrick left Ionia when the Pere Marquette departments were moved to Wyoming and has been there since. He resided on Mill street here and for many years was a resident of Ionia county and city. He was engaged in several enterprises when in Ionia, having at one time had a pool room, and restaurant at another time a coal yard, and at still another time opening an amusement park south of the river near where the old upper bridge crossed at the foot of Mill street. At the time of his death Mr. Derrick was a member of the I.O.O. F. at Grand Rapids and president of the Cereseta base ball team. He was formerly president of the Pere Marquette Y.M.C.A. He leaves a widow and two sons, Richard and Gerald, and a brother Frank, all of Grand Rapids, also a brother Alonzo, of Ionia.
