Dertien, the former Mildred Haas of Ionia, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon in Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids. Born in Ionia October 27, 1918, she married Ralph R. Dertien and the couple made their home in Grand Rapids where services will be under the auspices of Zaagman Memorial chapel at 1885 Eastern avenue SE. Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Mrs. Janet Haverman of Greenville, Tenn. and Mrs. Sandra Goldersma of Grand Rapids, two sons, Roger and Thomas, both of Grand Rapids. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Wesley Marz, Mrs. Richard Knapp, and Mrs. Robert Black Sr. of Grand Rapids and many relatives in the Ionia area. Relatives and friends may visit the funeral chapel Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Services will be Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Redeemer Lutheran church at 1905 Madison Ave. SE in Grand Rapids with Rev. Norman Heintz officiating. Burial is in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Contributions may be made to a memorial fund for Redeemer Lutheran church.
