Jody L. (Newton) DeVries, 48, Ionia, Michigan, passed unexpectedly due to 
cardiac arrest on Monday, September 15, 2014.  She was born on April 10, 1966 
in Kalamazoo, MI the daughter of William and Joyce (Stears) Newton. 

Jody was a devoted wife, daughter, sister and friend.  She loved children, 
especially her nieces and nephews.  Jody enjoyed music and entertainment, and 
liked to travel. 

Preceding her in death were her Grandpa and Grandma Newton, Grandpa and Grandma 
Stears, and Grandpa Bill; nephews, Ethan Weathers and Steven Maxson; father-in-
law, Jim DeVries.  Surviving are her husband, James DeVries; parents, Joyce 
Newton and Bill (Kay) Newton; sister, Lori (Lawrence) Weathers; step siblings, 
Kimberlee (Marc) Fox, Kellee Soumouske, and Kevin (Valerie) Burd; nieces and 
nephews, Ashley (Evan) Johnson, Griffin Weathers, Bailey Weathers, Jenna Fox, 
Mandi (Mike) Conover, David (Chelsea) Fox, Tristen Soumouske, Erica Maxson, 
Kayla Burd, Jackson Burd, and Anna Burd. 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 20, 2014 
at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 434 High Street, Ionia, with Rev. Thomas 
Boufford presiding.  The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. 
until the time of the service on Saturday.  In Lieu of Flowers, memorial 
contributions may be made to the Good Samaritans at Blessed Sacrament, 110 
Cedar, Allegan, MI 49010, or to the wishes of the family, in memory of Jody. 
Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes, Ionia.
