Dexter, for 35 years a highly esteemed resident of Easton township, but for the 5 years last past making his home at Saranac, expired very suddenly and without previous illness or warning at about 8:00 Monday evening. Mr. Dexter was feeling good enough to spend the day on the banks of the Grand River and had just a few minutes before the end finished cleaning his catch." 2) 8-15-1911: "Charles Dexter, age 73, died at 7:00 last night at the family home in Saranac. Mr. Dexter was a resident 35 years of Easton, 5 years ago he bought residence in Saranac." SARANAC ADVERTISER, MI, 8-17-1911: 1) "Local News - Charles Dexter passed away, at his home west of the Village Monday evening at 7 p.m. He had been down to the river fishing and returned home at 4 with a nice string of fish. He told Mrs. Dexter that as he was coming up from the river, he began to feel sick but thought the heat caused it. He did not seem to be any worse until about 7 when he suddenly expired. The funeral will be held on Thursday and will meet at the home at 12:30 fast time and at the Easton M. E. Church at 2:30 for services. It is requested that flowers be omitted." 2) 8-24-1911: "Obituary: Charles Dexter was born in the township of Easton April 3, 1838 and departed this life August 14, 1911, at his home in Saranac, aged 73 years, 4 months and 11 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Abigail R. Smith June 17, 1860, with whom he kept the marriage vows for over 51 years. This union was blessed with one daughter born June 6, 1867, who preceded her father and mother to the future world when but a child of 12 years. Mr. Dexter chose for his life's work the occupation of farming and spent the greater part of his life upon the farm in Easton. He moved to this village about 5 years ago, which has since been his home. He is survived by his wife who has been a faithful companion for over 51 years, a sister, Mrs. J. S. Dunham who resides in Ionia, also distant relatives and a host of friends and neighbors both in Saranac and Easton. One note worthy of notice is that his funeral service occured on the same day of the month on which his daughter died. He was a good citizen, a good neighbor, and a faithful husband who put into practice the golden rule of morals. As to his religious view, we do not know. Funeral services were at Easton Church, with interment in Easton cemetery. he following were the out of town relatives who were here to attend the funeral: Manley Aldrich and wife, A. C. Smith and wife, Vern Smith and wife, and Peter Schively and wife, all of Ionia, a sister of Mrs. Dexter and husband, J. F. Proctor and Frank Proctor and daughter of Hersey, Osceola County, D. F. Kilmer and Bert Potter and wife, and O. C. Smith of Grand Rapids, Frank Aldrich and wife, George Robinson and wife and daughter of Lake Odessa, Mrs. H. H. Batson, sister of Mrs. Dexter, and Mrs. Orin Green and family of Keene. Pall bearers Franklin Aldrich, Frank Proctor, O. C. Smith, G. W. Smith, A. C. Smith and Vern Smith, nephews of Mrs. Dexter." 3) CARD OF THANKS from Mrs. Charles Dexter. 4) 8-31-1911: Mr. and Mrs. Smith, who have been staying with his aunt, Mrs. Dexter, since Mr. Dexter's death, returned to their home in Ionia Tuesday. Mrs. H. H. Batson will stay with Mrs. Dexter for the present."
