Wm. Dexter was born in New York state May 23, 1825.  At the age of six years 
he moved with his parents to Ypsilanti, Mich., where he lived about 25 years.  
He then moved to Illinois, where he was married to Miss Lucinda Nichols, who 
still survives him.  At the breaking out of the Civil war, he enlisted as a 
private in which capacity he served his country three years; and was among the 
company who followed Sherman in his celebrated march to the sea.

In 1866 he moved with his family to Michigan, settling on his farm on the 
north bank of Maple river, near Hubbardston, where he lived till 1891, when he 
moved to Pewamo, where he lived until his death, which occurred April 9, 1908, 
at the ripe old age of 82 years, 10 months and 16 days.

Besides his wife, three children survive him, namely: Arthur, of Edmore; 
Charles of Boyne City; and Mrs. J. L. Cupit of Grand Ledge.  His death was the 
only break in a  wedded life of nearly 52 years.

Two brothers and one sister also survive him, beside a large number of other 
relatives.  He was well thought of by all who knew him, and was a member of 
the Seventh Day Adventist church, having been converted to that faith in 1876, 
under the labors of Eld. John Sisley, of Battle Creek.

During the past three years he has been a patient sufferer from organic heart 
disease which, complicated with the grip, caused his death.  He was a kind 
father and loving husband and is missed by a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were held at his late home on Saturday, April 11, by Eld. E. 
K. Slade, of Holly.  Interment in the Pewamo cemetery.
