Layton was born in Steuben county, New York State, November 15, 1846. In early life she moved with her parents to Huron county, Ohio, where at the age of 24 years she was united in marriage to Levi F. Dick. They came to Michigan in 1874 and settled on the farm in North Plains township, where she lived until after the death of her husband in 1903, after which she made her home with her children, passing away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Kilts at Matherton, January 19, 1921 at the age of 74 years, two months and four days. She was a faithful wife and mother and always had a cheerful word for all she met. She lived an earnest life, having been a member of the United Brethren church for over 30 years and the day before her death expressed her willingness to go to her home above. She leaves to mourn her loss three sons, George, Frank and Edward of Lansing, two daughters, Mrs. Jennie Kiltz of Matherton and Mrs. Bessie DaDue of Ionia, 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild. The funeral services were conducted at the U.B. church, January 22, at 1:30 p.m. Rev. C.F. Adams officiating and burial was made in North Plains cemetery.
