Mrs. Dicken was a woman of sterling character, always ready with a kind act or word and she will be missed not only by her family but by a host of friends and neighbors. Edith Russell Dicken, the daughter of Gilbert and Catherine Russell, was born at Smyrna, Michigan, March 31, 1873 ,where he girlhood life was spent. On September 26, 1894 she was married to Delos Dicken; also of Smyrna. To this union ten children were born, two dying in infancy. Early in life Mrs. Dicken became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and has always been a faithful and devout member of that organization, ever giving to her church as to her family, her best. Practically her whole life has been spent in this community. In 1909 the family came to Belding, moving into the house on Kenwood avenue, two years later, where they resided at the time of her death, which occurred March 16, 1928. Besides her husband Mrs. Dicken leaves eight children to grieve the loss of a dear mother: Mrs. John Krem, of Grand Rapids; Morris and Ivo, of Grattan; Dale and Burton, of Rochester; Gilbert, of New York city; Marguerite and Paul at home; also one sister, Mrs. Wm. Walker of Greenville and two brothers, Amos Russell, of Smyrna, and Albert Russell, of Ionia, and many friends and relatives. The funeral took place at the home Monday, March 19 at 2 o’clock, Rev. Dunbar, of the Methodist Episcopal church officiating, assisted by Rev. Shriner, of the Church of God. Interment was in Otisco cemetery.
