Passed Away In Lansing Hospital Where Operation Fails To Save Life. Funeral services for David Dilley were held at the Baptist church, Tuesday afternoon, under the auspices of the Portland lodge of Masons, with Rev. John H. Stewart officiating. Mr. Dilley passed away at Edward W. Sparrow hospital, late Saturday afternoon, following an operation performed the Thursday previous, from which he failed to rally. On Tuesday evening of last week he suffered a severe pain in the stomach after bringing a basket of apples into the house. Growing rapidly worse he was taken to the hospital where an operation revealed an ulcer that had broken at the time he set the basket of apples on the floor. Mr. Dilley was born in England, Nov. 24, 1879, and came to the United States with his parents when slightly over a year old. The Dilley family settled in Portland and David had been a resident here continuously since that time. Mr. Dilley had a considerable reputation as an apple grower, his fruit being in demand in the markets of Chicago and Detroit, because of its excellent quality. He was a member of the Portland Masonic lodge and of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of which order he had at one time been Noble Grand. He was also a member of the Grange. Surviving him are his widow, formerly Miss Iva Smith of Portland, and a son, Elon, aged 11. Also three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Ada Carbaugh, Mrs. Eliza McDougall, of Lansing, Mrs. Lizzie Goodwin, of Portland, Benjamin, of Roxand, and George, of Portland.
