Mrs. Diana Dingman, a woman of remarkable faculties considering her advanced age, died at 11:30 Monday night at her residence on Grant street, of bronchial trouble, with which she had been ill only a few days. Her funeral, the fifth to be held here since Sunday, was attended from the late residence Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Wm. H. Skentelbury, of the Congregational church officiated. Burial was made in Portland cemetery. Since coming to Portland from Stanton in the early nineties, Mrs. Dingman had devoted her time almost exclusively to the culture of flowers and shrubbery and gained her livelihood in this way. She was a recognized authority in her line and found a ready market for everything she raised. For years after coming here she conducted a greenhouse on her land just east of the water works, on the so-called “flat-iron” plat. This was later destroyed by fire. Mrs. Dingman was a native of Warnerville, Schoharie county, N.Y. Her birth occurred March 25, 1832, making her a trifle past 84 years of age at the time of her death. Despite her advanced age she was unusually sprightly, doing her housework and attending to her other duties without assistance until within a comparatively few days ago. Her husband, whose name was Gideon Dingman, died at Stanton November 21, 1884. They were married at Warnerville, N.Y., December 4, 1850. Mr. Dingman was a veteran of the civil war. Of five children born to this union, Mrs. Sylvia Boorn, of Flint, is the only one to survive. Mrs. Nancy Vaughn, a sister of Mrs. Dingman, resides at Bridgeport Conn. She is 86 years of age. There is also one grandson, Harry M. Boorn, of Flint, who, with his mother, attended the funeral.
