Maria, widow of the late Wm. Disbrow, died at the home of her nephew at Sturgis on the 18th of February, but news of the death was not received here until last Wednesday, when O. N. Jenkins, who was a neighbor of the Disbrows when they lived in Portland, received a letter from the gentleman with whom Mrs. Disbrow made her home. The letter referred to contained the following facts regarding deceased: Maria Scribner was born in the state of New York Feb. 15th, 1824, and came with her parents to Ann Arbor in 1844. Four years later she was married to Wm. Disbrow and settled with him soon after in Portland, Mich., where they resided until the death of Mr. Disbrow, which occurred in April, 1894. They united with the M. E. church the first year of their married life and were useful and esteemed members of the same. After the death of Mr. Disbrow Mrs. Disbrow came to Sturgis to reside with a nephew, Byron J. Adams, where she lived from May, 1895 until her death, which occurred February 18, 1904, she having been 80 years and 3 days old. Funeral services were held at her late residence conducted by Rev. L. N. Pattison, pastor of the M. E. Church of Sturgis, and burial made in Oak Lawn cemetery.
