In 1863 he escaped from his master and took refuge within two lines of the Union army, whence he was sent by railway train north and reached his destination safely in the neighborhood of Long lake, Orleans township. He immediately settled there and secured a piece of land and provided a home. After the war was over he found his wife and brought her from the south to her new home in the north. Here they reared a large family, educating their children in the public schools and became worthy members of an enterprising neighborhood. The funeral was held at the home of the late Caesar Dixon and was largely attended by relatives, neighbors and friends, Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, July 22. After the service at the house the remains were interred in Orleans cemetery. The mourning family and relatives have the sympathy of the community in which Mr. Dixon lived, respected for his industry, integrity and moral worth.
