The contagion broke out in the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Dixon, 141 East Washington street Sunday. The stricken was Lenore Edna, their seven years and nine months old daughter. Dr. Winchell was called, and he called into consultation City Health Officer McCann and both pronounced the case diphtheria. The rapidity with which the disease worked its fatal results can be better imagined from the fact that the child and her parents were down town Saturday evening, trading at the stores. There are two other children in the family, but so far they are not reported ill and the contagion is well in hand. The Dixon family came here from Detroit when the Hayes-Ionia factory was established, Mr. Dixon being employed there in one of the auto body departments. The funeral will be private and the remains interred in Highland Park cemetery.
