Dixon, 78, of Ionia, passed away Nov. 8, 1998, at Ionia County Memorial Hospital. He was born the son of Earl and Vera Dixon on May 9, 1920, in Mission Point, Mich. He graduated from Sts. Peter and Paul's Academy in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He married Aloyse Kenny on September 3, 1949. For many years he was the maintenance engineer at Sts. Peter and Paul's Parish, and he was the sexton at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, retiring in 1969. He married Jeannine Balice-Nolan on Nov. 9, 1967. Jeannine and Charles owned the Ionia News Agency on Main Street, Ionia, for many years, later selling the Agency to his son, Richard Dixon. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Ionia and a member of the Ionia Knights of Columbus. Surviving are four sons, Anthony (Patricia) Nolan of Grand Rapids, Brother Robert Dixon of Brazil, William (Mary-Lynn) Dixon of Woodland, Richard Dixon of Ionia; three daughters, Dona Marie (David) Heintzelman of Ionia, Rosemary Kay (Gary) Arnold of Turk Lake, Jani (Tom) Millard of Ionia; 13 grandchildren; three great-grand children; two brothers, Hugh (Ruth) Dixon of Saranac; Harry (Sherry) Dixon of Texas; and one sister, Carol Rumisek of Ionia. He was preceded in death by two wives, Aloyse in 1966 and Jeannine in 1991, one sister and one brother. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Ionia with Father Melvin Fox as presider. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visiting hours are 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. today with the Rosary Service at 8 p.m. at the Rich Street Chapel of Cook Funeral Home, Ionia. Memorial contributions may be made to Brother Robert Dixon's work in Brazil. Envelopes available at Cook Funeral Home, Ionia."
