Dobbins, age 85, an Irish man at heart, died at his Concord, Mich. home on July 30, 2007 with his family close by. Dick was born at home in Ionia on October 21, 1921 to Richard and Ada Dobbins. He graduated from St. Peter and Paul Academy in Ionia and attended Michigan State College where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later attended the Advanced Business Program at Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. Dick served in WWII as a Captain in the United States Army. He spoke often of his pride in serving his country. Dick was Vice President of Manufacturing at Albion Malleable. He later became President of Albion Industries and worked there until he retired in 1987. Upon his retirement, Dick founded Caster Concepts where he remained involved until his death. A country boy at heart, Dick spent his free time developing his true love, North Concord Farms, where he spent a great deal of time watching his corn grow. Dick valued his faith. He was a founding member of St. Catherine Laboure Church in Concord and was an active parishioner while his health allowed. Dick was active in Boy Scouting with his sons and received the Silver Beaver Award for many years of service to the program. Dick married his first wife, Marian Jean, in 1943. They had six children together. Marian and his daughter, Mary, preceded him in death. He married his present wife, Nancy Joanne, in 1990. He is survived by his wife, Nancy and his children, Richard (Martha Ann), James (Sandi), William (Karen), Martha, Thomas (Marikay). Dick has five stepchildren, Hans, Linden, Margaret, Michael and Denise, as well as 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation will occur at St. Catherine Laboure Church in Concord, Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The family will be present during both gatherings. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Catherine Laboure Church on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Lou Eberhart officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Concord. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to St. Catherine Laboure Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. Lauer Family Funeral Home, 116 S.
