Aug. 17, 2013 Gerald (Jerry) D. Dobie- After a short battle with cancer, Jerry met his match in the game of life on Aug. 16, 2013. He was born June 22, 1935 in St. Louis, MI of Harry (Pete) Dobie and Dorothy (Welch) Dobie VandeMark. Upon graduating from MSU with a civil engineering degree, Jerry went to work for Michigan Dept. of Transportation. Jerry held many positions with MDOT, starting with project engineer and finally with highway construction chief. He oversaw all highway construction and improvements on Michigan's 9,500 mile highway system, retiring in 1995 after 37 years of dedication. His proudest accomplishment was being the chief supervising engineer for the completion of the Zilwaukee Bridge in 1987. His passion was to play golf with his sons, especially the Tuesday night Dobie golf league. Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, Marvin (Leroy) Dobie and brother-in- law, Donald Rhodes. He is survived by his wife, Marcy (Lathrop) Senters Dobie and their seven sons, Scott (Karen) Dobie, Greg (Kathy) Dobie, Doug (Deb) Dobie, Tom (Sheri) Dobie, Marc (Tonya) Senters, Bret (Stephanie) Senters, and Drew (Susan Grice) Senters. Also surviving is his sister, Janet Rhodes and sister-in-law, Shelia Dobie. Jerry always claimed he will continue to live on through his seven sons, 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Koops Funeral Chapel, 935 Fourth Ave., Lake Odessa, 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 20, from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Interment will follow immediately at Woodland Cemetery.
