Great was the surprise when the news rapidly spread last Wednesday evening that Mrs.Henry Doerr had been found dead on the floor by her husband upon his return home from work. Mr. Doerr has for years been employed on the railroad here where he now is engaged as guard of the main crossing. He leaves home about seven in the morning taking his lunch with him and returns at 6:30 at night. On Tuesday he left home as usual leaving Mrs.Doerr as well apparently as she had been for several days. Returning at night he found the house dark which as unusual. He opened the door calling his wife by name but no one responded. He passed in and by the light of the coal stove saw her lying on the floor. He immediately summoned neighbors who came and helped get her up. A doctor was called who decided she had suffered a stroke. Mrs. Doerr has been in poor health for a number of years but was a very determined, ambitious woman and would never give up hard work. All her friends have time and time again urged her to cease working so hard especially when she was too ill to do so, but work seemed to be her life. About 12:30 on Tuesday Mrs John Rasmussen, a neighbor and friend called on Mrs.Doerr and found she was to all appearances as well as she had been for several days. After this neighborly call no one ever saw her again alive and she must have died soon after for her body was cold when Mr.Doerr returned at night. When one considers he malady it is not surprising that nature could keep up no longer. Mrs.Doerr was a faithful member of the congregational church, the Lady Maccabees, the Rebekahs and the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. She was always ready to do her part and will be greatly missed not only by her family but by neighbors and friends. Mr. Doerr has the sympathy of the entire village for he is a general favorite with all, both young and old, he always has a cherry word and a friendly smile. Mrs.Homer Huber, a daughter of Detroit arrived yesterday, also the son, Charley who resides near Cass city. The oldest daughter Mrs. Wm. Overly of Chicago is expected on the next train. The funeral service wll take place at the Congregational church today, and burial will be at Lakeside.
