Stanley Dolan, Former Assistant Physician at Ionia Asylum Dr. A. Stanley Dolan was recently found dead at Riverside, Cal., under circumstances that leave little doubt as to its being suicide. Dr. Dolan was possibly a victim of insanity, to which those who have the care of insane, are said to be specially liable, partially the result of official and public criticism of his official conduct. Dr. Dolan had been asst. med. supt. of the Southern California Hospital for the Insane, and had been forced to resign, after altercation with his official associates, and after an indiscretion in an examination relating to treatment by him of patients in hospital. His wife was dead and later he seems to have become involved in attentions to two women, both of whom looked upon him as an accepted suitor, and between whom he was unable to make a choice. In this situation the anonymous letter writer got busy and helped to make life a burden to the doctor. "Weary of it all, Dr. Dolan possibly died by his own hand - possibly of a broken heart and shattered spirit."
