Donovan, former local business man, passed away at his home, 815 S. Bridge street Sunday afternoon February 7th following an illness which dated back since Christmas. Mr. Donovan was born March 10, 1862, in Ronald township, and was proprietor of a confectionery store in this city for over 40 years. He was married in June, 1880, to Miss Etta McDonald, of Lyons, who passed from this life in 1910. To them were born three sons who survive. They are Frank M. Donovan, who with his family have lived with his father at his home; Lawrence A. Donovan, owner and proprietor of Donovan’s confectionery, formerly owned by his father; John, Jr., of New York city. Mr. Donovan was a 32nd degree Mason, being well-known in Masonic circles in Grand Rapids. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning from the Fitzjohn funeral home. Rev. H. S. Ellis officiated with interment in the mausoleum in River Ridge cemetery.
