Whitey was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Jackson, the son of Archie Merle and Dollie Gilmore Dorey. For a number of years Archie was Fire Chief of the Belding Fire Department and owned the Standard Oil Company Gas station at Bridge and State streets in Belding. Whitey was an original member of the Grand Rapids Horseless Carriage Club and belonged to several area antique tractor clubs. He enjoyed tinkering and working with his Farmall Tractors and hunting and fishing. He married Wilma “Pete” Fletcher Oct. 20, 1942 in Belding and she survives him along with their children: James and Jeanette Dorey of Greenville; daughter-in- law Donna Dorey of Belding; son-in-law Dennis Baker of Dixon, Tenn.; grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin Dorey, Deanna and Todd Kimble, Darin and Karen Dorey, Jeff Dorey and Denise, Carrie and Branden Peterman, Holly and Don Stacey, Chris Dorey and Ambra; great-grandchildren, Jake, Samantha, Emma, Colton, Dylan, Shelby, Elijah, Katilyn, James, Addisen and Jessica; one brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Myrtle Sage of Muir. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mildren Shepard; brother Benson Sage; daughter Lois Baker in 1984; and son Larry Dorey in 2003. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Darwyn Hassert of Smyrna Bible Church officiating. Visitation is 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in River Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Belding Fire Department or the Belding Museum.
