Dorland, 58, of Greenville, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2013 at his home after battling diabetes and arthritis for several years. The son of Bonnie Louise (Billett) and William A. Dorland, Jr., he was born on July 24, 1955 in Cadillac and grew up in McBain. For 17 years, Gary worked at the former Electrolux Home Products in Greenville and enjoyed working on his cars, gardening, fishing, and finding a bargain at the Trufant flea market, but his greatest joy was in time spent with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Diane Hall; and a brother, William “Bill” Dorland. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Dorland of Greenville; their children, Gary Dorland of Greenville and Bonnie & Jeff Keene of Howard City; five grandchildren, Kandis Keene, Kaitelyn Keene, Adam Keene, Zack Dorland, and Kyle Dorland two sisters, Connie & Larry Eling, and Vicky & Mark Reuss, all of McBain; a brother, Steve Dorland of Sneedsville, Tennessee; his life-long friend, Jim Zimmerman of McBain; siblings-in-law, David Rice of Belding, Chester Frank Burns of Saranac, Larry & Jackie Burns of Stanton, Terry Burns of Greenville, Louise & John Lyons of Belding, Dennis & Joanna Burns of Edmore, Danny & Brenda Burns of Gowen, and Clayton Burns of Cutlerville; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. Visitation with the family is from 5 to 6 p.m. on Friday at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday with the Rev. Paul Leslie, pastor of Green Corners Baptist Church, officiating.
