Virgil L. Doty, 69, of Ionia died Thursday at Ionia County Memorial Hospital.  
Born on July 14, 1924, he was the son of Clifford and Katie Grove.  

He married the former Marguerite Schreiner in 1947 in Lansing; she survives.  
They moved to Ionia in 1950 and had lived here since.  He was employed at 
GenCorp and predecessor companies for more than 32 years.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Cindy Coulson of Ionia; a 
grandson, Andy; a brother, Chester of Lansing, and a sister, Martha Pennington 
of Ohio.  He was preceded in death by 17 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. from Cook Funeral Home, Ionia, 
with the Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating.  Burial will be in Highland Park 
Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Matt Vargo, Lawrence White, Greg Hair, Herb 
Loveless, Roberto Cruz, and Pete Doty.  The family will be at the funeral from 
2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m.  Memorials have been established for Ionia 
County 911-Central Dispatch and Ionia County Commission on Aging.
