W. E. Doty of Olivet passed away suddenly at his home in that city Saturday night at 10 o’clock from angina pectoris. Rev. Doty, who was 70 years of age last August, had lived in Olivet since his retirement in 1937 from the Portland pastorate. He was born in Berlin township the son of Ezra and Ester Doty and was pastor of the M.E. church in this city about 23 years ago, leaving here to go to Lansing. Surviving are the widow, one son, William, who is dean of music at the University of Texas; a sister, Mrs. Clara Jenks, of Marshall; one brother, Wilbur, of Ionia, and a number of cousins. Funeral rites were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Burkhead chapel in Olivet. Ministers from various points of the conference were in attendance. A cousin, Mrs. Jessie Magers, Miss Marion Magers and Miss Mary E. Wooldridge of this city also attended.
