All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Marilyn Ransom mlnransom@chartermi.net May 6, 2010, 9:04 pm The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Thursday, August 18, 1938 James Douglas, 86, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Judson Banning Wednesday afternoon, August 17, at 1:30 o’clock following an illness of only a few days from a stroke of paralysis which he suffered at his home before being removed to the Banning home in Muir. Mr. Douglas was born in 1852 at Richfield Springs, New York, the son of William and Eliza Monks Douglas. He came to Michigan in 1879, returning to New York in 1896. In 1913 he came back to Michigan and later purchased the building known as the late Chauncey Ruinsey office which he converted into the home in which he lived until recently. During these years he was a familiar figure to Muir residents, maintaining excellent health and an interest in public affairs until his death. During the year of 1876 he was married to Roxie Flint who died in 1890. Two children were born to them, a son, who died in 1890 and a daughter, who died in 1891. Survivors are a brother, Frank Douglas of New York; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Douglas, a niece and six nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from the Banning home Friday afternoon, August 19, at 2 o’clock. Interment will be in the Muir cemetery.
