Mrs. Douse had been in failing health since a year ago last March, but she was taken seriously ill about six weeks ago, and had been confined to bed since then. She was born in St. Annaland, a tiny settlement on the island of Thalan in Holland, December 10, 1843, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John DeYoung. She was married in Holland to Martin Douse and in 1882 she and Mr. Douse and their five children came to America and settled in Holland, Mich. After one year there they moved to Ionia. She had resided here for the past 53 years, and for over 30 years Mr. Douse was employed by the late John DeQuack, in his truck gardens. Mr. Douse died August 31, 1933. Surviving are seven children, Mrs. William Morey, 613 Rich street; Mrs. Frank Howk, of Lowell; Mrs. Mattie Smith, Leonard and Peter Douse, of Grand Rapids; Mrs. Nellie Read, of Detroit; and Mrs. Anna Ward, 607 Rich street, with whom she resided. She also leaves 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the home of the daughter, 607 Rich street, Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. M.W. Duffey, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Music will be furnished by Mrs. Thane Benedict and Mrs. Ray Colwell. Interment will be at the family lot at Highland Park cemetery.
