Wing and Rev. Thompson officiated. His death occurred Tuesday. Among those attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Will Pickens and son, J. C. Pickens, of Garryton; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Reghi, of Detroit, Dr. and Mrs. Peacock, of Lansing, and Mrs. Robert Barry, of Saranac. Mr. Downing was the son of Dr. Samuel and Elizabeth Downing and was born at South Salem, Indiana, March 28, 1847. September 1, 1865, at the age of 18 years he started with his parents for Michigan in a covered wagon and arrived several days later in the vicinity of West Sebewa where he spent the remainder of his life. December 21, 1872, he was married to Elizabeth A. Adamy whose death occurred September 29, 1931. Surviving him are six children, Mrs. Ida L. Janes, Lillian G. Badder, Rosa M. Pickens, William W. Downing, Thomas J. Downing and Elizabeth M. Gribbs. Two others, a son, Elmer, and a daughter, Bessie, died, the former, February 5, 1925, and the latter, March 9, 1918. There are also twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
