"JACK" JOHN P. DOWNING
Born April 2 1933 at Middleton, MI son of Chancey W. & Myrtle L. 
(Chamberlain) Downing.
Died October 9, 2019-age 86
Moved to a farm in Pewamo at age 10 when he grew up.
Graduated Pewamo High School in 1951.
Married in 1952 to June Janes of Ionia, MI. 
Moved to St. Johns in 1952 & worked at Egan Ford Sales as a mechanic.
In 1975 he & a partner bought the dealership & owned it until 1984.
Sold dealership to Frank Pauli & worked for Frank until retired in 1995.
Was a founder of St.Johns Little League program & Clinton County Soap Box 
derby.
On the Board of Directors for Clinton Co. Golden Gloves Boxing team.
Vice President  & President of St. Johns Jaycee Chapter.
Enjoyed fishing trip to the cabin at Houghton Lake. 
Deer hunting trips to the U.P. with special friends, grandsons & son-in-law.
Pre-deceased by brothers & their spouses, sister & spouse & infant sister.
Survived by wife of 67 years June, sister Glenna & husband, nieces & nephews, 
4 children, 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2019 at Pilgrim United 
Methodist church, St. Johns, with Pastor Andy Croel officiating.
Visitation 2-8 p.m. Sunday October 13, at Keck-Coleman funeral Home, St. 
Johns.
Any donation may be made to Sparrow Clinton Infusion Center or St. Jude's 
Children's Hospital.
