Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Aug, 2012

Denise Marie Downs, 53, of Saranac, passed to her heavenly home on Aug. 4, 2012.

She is survived by two sons, Andrew Downs (Carmen) of Grand Rapids and Dan 
Barnick of Saranac; four grandchildren, Shayla, Simone, Blaze and Bastian 
Downs; her parents, DeWayne Downs, and Barbara Downs; and siblings, Dave Downs 
(Nancy) of Saranac and Deb Downs of Ionia. She will also be missed by nephews 
and nieces, aunts, uncles, and many cousins and friends.

She has joined her daughter, Barbara Barnick, who preceded her in passing.

Denise enjoyed her work as a special education teacher in the Grand Rapids 
Public school system for many years, enjoyed spending time with her family and 
extended family, her friends at Snows Lake campground, camping, nature, flowers 
and traveling. 

She has touched many lives with her friendliness, compassion and love.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Denise will be held Aug. 18, 2012 
at the Saranac Community Church at 1 p.m. with visitation from 11:30 to 12:30 
p.m. prior to the service.
