May 16, 2018 MICHAEL DRYER, 75 Michael Thomas Dryer, age 75 of Lake City, passed away Sunday May 13, 2018, at Spectrum Health, Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Mike was born November 11, 1942, in Manistee, MI. to Robert Eldredge and Wanda Helene (Luikens) Dryer. He married Gloria Faye Blaylock November 26, 1965, in Bad Axe. Mike received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English and German and a Masters degree in English Education from Central Michigan University. He was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. Mike taught at Ionia High School for 35 years. While there he coached golf for 30 years, as well as J. V. baseball and 7th Grade basketball. Upon retirement in 2000 he moved to Lake City where he substitute taught for the Lake City School for 15 years. Mike was a girl's basketball and volleyball referee in Ionia and Lake City. He played summer softball and umpired for an adult softball league. Mike was a big sports fan; MSU, Detroit Tigers and loved watching basketball. His personal interest were golfing, fishing, gardening, reading, attending the theater and extensive traveling. He was a member of the Elks lodge in Ionia and Cadillac, the Ionia Moose lodge and a member of the Lake City First Presbyterian church. He is survived by his wife Gloria and a daughter; Leslie (Scott) Edison of Alto and son: Matthew (Catherine Mirhady) Dryer of California, and four grandchildren; Bailey Rose Edison, Shannon Christy Edison, Alannah Morgan Dryer and Omid-Michael Dryer. He is also survived by a brother; Shawn (Juanita)Dryer and a sister; Laurel (Randy) Kibiloski both of Lake City and many nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church of Lake City with Rev. Jan Jasperse officiating. A time of visitation will be on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 4-8 p.m at the Young Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Ionia High SchoolScholarship Fund, Lake City High School Scholarship Fund or the Missaukee District Library.
