Florence M. Duckworth, 92, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2003 in North 
Port, Florida.  She was born November 6, 1910 in Bradley, the daughter of 
Floyd and Hattie (Oliver) Drake.

After graduating from Taylor University in 1932 she married Walter Harry White 
on November 11, 1933 in Hubbardston.  Mrs. Duckworth was a former resident of 
Eaton Rapids, where she taught high school math before relocating to Florida 
20 years ago.  She taught math at the Ionia Junior and Senior High Schools 
from 1941 to 1973.  Florence was a former officer in both Delta Kappa Gamma 
Sorority and the Michigan Retired Teachers Association.  She has been an 
active member of First United Methodist Church in Ionia, First Baptist Church 
of Charlotte and the First Alliance Church in Port Charlotte, Florida.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband Walter.

Surviving are husband, Oral Duckworth, whom she married August 14, 1982; sons, 
Dr. William (Anne) White of Macomb, Illinois, Bernard (Shirley) White of 
Marshall, Benjamin (Ann) White of Alma; stepsons, Bradley (Sylvia) Duckworth 
of Port Charlotte, Florida and John (Patricia) Duckworth of Sarasota, Florida; 
stepdaughters Barbara (Wayne) Pede of Lansing and Bethany (Dr. William) Conner 
of Great Falls, Montana; 21 grandchildren 40 great-grandchildren and one great-
great grandchild with another on the way.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Balcom Cemetery in 
Ionia.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral home, Cook 
Chapel, 220 Rich Street, Ionia.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to 
the Delta Kappa Gamma/Gamma Nu in care of the funeral home.
