Ionia Sentinel Standard, 2002

Mr. Hollis G. Duell, 79, of Ionia passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, in Portage.

He was born the son of Hollis P. and Pauline (Gazella) Duell on Feb. 18, 1922 
in Ionia.

Hollis graduated from SS. Peter & Paul Academy and he was a member SS. Peter & 
Paul Catholic Church in Ionia.  He had a career in the U.S. Navy for over 20 
years.  He was a member of the Ionia VFW and an active member of the Sub-Vets 
in Michigan and Texas.

Surviving are one son, David (Kelly) Duell of Sparks, Nev.; two grandsons, 
Derick and Daryl; two step-grandsons, Billie and D.J.; two brothers, Jerry 
(Marge) Duell of Ionia and Robert (Cathleen “Joyce”) Duell of Paw Paw; two 
sisters, Ora “Navene” Duell of Texas and Maxine Page of Ionia; and several 
nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice M. Duell on Aug. 23, 1998; and his 
son, Bruce Duell.

Mass of Christian burial will be offered 11 a.m., Friday from SS. Peter & Paul 
Catholic Church in Ionia with Fr. Melvin Fox as presider.  The organist will be 
Mary Cusack.  Interment will be in Calvary Hill Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.  A 
time of visitation with Hollis’ family will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Friday at 
the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes 
Association or to Lou Gehrig’s Disease Research in care of the funeral home.
