He was born on February 17, 1933 at Sioux Center, Iowa the son of Jacob & Jennie (VanRoekel) Duits. Mr.Duits was raised in Iowa & Woodland Michigan areas & attended Woodland schools, graduating in 1951 from Woodland High School. He was married to Greta M.McClelland on November 24, 1951. Mr. Duits was employed at the E.W. Bliss Company in Hastings for a few years; owned & operated Sunshine Valley Nursery near Hastings & Nashville for 25 years; and while living in Arizona for 15 years, was with the Fairfield Homes Construction Company for six years. He was a member of S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A.(Barbershop Society), National Rifle Association, The National Guard. Mr.Duits was an avid outdoorsman enjoying especially hunting in Michigan and Colorado & fishing in Canada. He loved & participated in mens' barbershop sining, particularity in Arizona. While there he sang in various groups including the Tucson Barbershop Chorus. Preceding him in death was aninfant son, Michael; aninfant grandson; a brother, gordon Duits. Surviving Mr.Duits is his wife, Greta; three sons & their wives,Rick & Sharon Duits of Hastings, Tom & Carrie Duits of Denver, Colorado, Mike & Michelle Duits of Hastings; two daughters,Donna Ledford of Amado, Arizona & Kathy & Ramon Madril of Amado, Arizona; 14 grandchildren; twp great-grandchildren; a sister, Rose Gibbs of Hale, Michigan; three brothers, Robert Duits of Portland, Michigan,Kenneth Duits of Saranac & Wayne Duits of Nashville. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, at the Wren Funeral Home in Hastings with the Reverend Carl Litchfield & Pastor Charles Gibbs officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Barry Community Hospice or Americn Cancer Society.
