The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Saturday, June 17, 1989
Jennie Duits, 80, of Hastings, formerly of Lake Odessa and Woodland, died June 
16 at Pennock Hospital in Hastings.  Born November 7, 1908 in Rock Valley, 
Iowa, she was the doughtier of Bert and Gertie Van Roekel.  She attended 
school in Iowa and married Jacob Duits June 13, 1928 in Canton, South Dakota.  
He preceded her in death June 3, 1985.  After their marriage they moved to the 
Woodland area, and then to Lake Odessa in 1979 and to Hastings in 1987.  Mrs. 
Duits worked at the Lake Odessa Canning Co., Piston Ring in Hastings, Keeler 
Brass in Lake Odessa and a medical care facility in Hastings.  She was a 
member of Zion Lutheran Church in Woodland.  

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Rose) Gibbs of Hale; four sons, Robert 
and Kenneth Duits of Portland, Donald Duits of Amado, Arizona, and Wayne Duits 
of Woodland; 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in 
death by a son Gordon, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, three brothers 
and a sister.

Funeral services will be Monday June 19, at 1 p.m. at  Koops Funeral Chapel in 
Lake Odessa.  Burial will be in Woodland Memorial Park.  Memorial 
contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.  The family will receive 
visitors Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
