Hastings Reminder - Sept. 17, 2011

Julie I. Dukes, age 94, of Hastings, went to be with her Lord and Savior on 
Saturday, September 10, 2011

She was born February 7, 1917 in Clarksville the daughter of Lewis and Loretta 
(Jackson) Heffelbower.

She graduated from Clarksville High School and married Floyd Dukes on July 3, 
1936 in Saranac.

Julia loved working in her flower and vegetable garden. She was dedicated in 
her faith in the Lord and taught Sunday and Bible School for many years.

Julia was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Floyd Dukes; sisters, 
Mildred Stalter, Letha Kyser, June McDiarmid and Cleone Reigler Tobias; and 
brother, Elvin Heffelbower. 
Julia will be lovingly remembered by her children, Bernard (Pat) Dukes, Roy 
(Jill) Dukes and Arnold (Jean) Dukes. She is the proud and loving grandma of 8 
grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother 
Howard (Roxie) Heffelbower and sister-in-law, Monelle Dukes.

The family wishes to give a special think you for the wonderful care she 
received at Thornapple Manor. 

Funeral services for Julia were conducted Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 
Koops Funeral Chapel – Lake Odessa. Interment followed at Freeport Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Julia’s name may be directed to Thornapple Manor, 
2700 Nashville Road, Hastings, MI 49058 or the American Cancer Society, 129 
Jefferson Ave., SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
