Grand River Exacts Annual Toll for Swimming Privileges. Harold Dumond, 15 years old, son of H.R. Dumond, residing on Thompson Alley, second ward, was drowned in the river, at the sand bar near lower end of fair grounds, about noon today. He was with a number of other boys, who saw him go down two or three times, and heard his cries, but seem to have been unable to render him help. A telephone message was sent from fair grounds to jail, and the sheriff and Deputy Will Taylor were taken to the spot in his auto. They worked with others two or three hours, trying to locate the body, but were unsuccessful. About 3:30 they came back to town for dynamite, by use of which they hope to raise the body. The boy was a good swimmer, and had been swimming back and forth across the river. Whether he was exhausted or taken with a cramp cannot be known.
