The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Friday, December 31, 1982


Florence Mabel Dumont, 88, died Thursday at Ionia Manor.  Born June 11, 1894, 
in Newfane, N.Y., she was the daughter of William and Frieda Smith.  She 
graduated from Muir High School and Ionia County Normal, and taught rural 
schools in Ionia County.  

She also formerly owned and operated a store, the Emporium, in Ionia, and was a 
real estate broker. She was also a founder of the Ionia County Humane Society.

She was married to Claude Dumont in August 1958; he died in 1964.  Two brothers 
and a sister also preceded her in death.  She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. from the Hull Memorial Chapel, Muir, 
with Reader William Black of the First Church of Christ Scientist, East 
Lansing, officiating.  Burial will be in Muir Cemetery.
