Norval was born July 13, 1917, in Belding, the son of Leo and Nora Haddix Dunlap. He was a 1936 graduate of Belding High School and a world War II veteran of the United States Navy. After the war, he worked as a die repairman for Extruded Metals for 30 years. During that same time period he was director of school transportation for Belding Area Schools. Norval was a member of American Legion Post 203 of Belding and he was a lifetime member of F&AM Masons of the Belding-Ionia Lodge. He loved hunting and fishing and playing golf with his wife and friends. On Oct. 27, 1973, he married Becky Knight Meabon. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Karen Dunlap Oswald; four brothers, Henry, Rusty, Bill and Dick Dunlap; sister, Betty Dunlap; and former wife, Maxine Manning. Norval is survived by his wife, Becky Dunlap; son, Richard and Kathy Dunlap of Coon Rapids, Minn.; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Meabon of Belding; grandchildren, Laurie and Miles Picotte, Tim Dunlap, Kevin and Sue Oswald, Kelly Oswald and friend, Mike, Kara Oswald and friend, Steve; great-grandchildren, Jana Max and Jessica Picotte, Courtney Oswald, Kyle Oswald, Kaitlin Oswald, Jessica Wisinski; brother, Tom and Anna Mae Dunlap of Greenville; sister, Mary and Don Johnson of Greenville; sister-in-law, Gladys Ingalls of Stanton; two brothers-in-law, Percy and Katie Knight of Stanton, Armour and Patty Knight of DeWitt; several nieces and nephews; very close hunting buddy, Tom Griffiths of Belding; and special friend, Dawn Marie Finkbeiner. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Saturday with one hour of visitation prior to the funeral at Johnson-Feuerstein Home, Belding, with the Rev. Steve Shick, master of divinity of Hospice of Michigan and the Rev. Dan Bennett of Grand Rapids officiating. In keeping with Norval’s wishes, his remains will be cremated after the funeral services and interment will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens at a later date. The Masonic Lodge and the American Legion will also have memorial services at the time of the funeral. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
