Dunn, 67, one of the oldest employees of the Pere Marquette railroad system, died at 10:15 p.m. Thursday at his home, 404 North Rich street, from the effects of a stroke, suffered shortly after the noon hour. For the past three years he had been a watchman at the Hudson street railway crossing. Mr. Dunn was born in Indiana, and came to live in Ionia when quite young. It was more than 40 years ago that Mr. Dunn received his first running order as an engineer out of the city of Ionia. The order was to run as far as the stone quarry, which is about two miles east of the city. From that time until about three years ago Mr. Dunn had held the throttle for all kinds of locomotives of the Pere Marquette, and numerous predecessors. Mr. Dunn entered the employ of the D. L. & L. M. in Ionia in 1878. He fired for three or four years in the yards and on the road before becoming an engineer. For a number of years Mr. Dun had a run between Grand Ledge and Plymouth, but later returned to Ionia to work. The only accident he ever had was one dark night at Howell. He made coupling, and failed to remove his hand quick enough, and lost the end of one finger. Mr. Dunn was a member of the Maccabees and the I.O.O.F. lodge. He is survived by his widow, two children, Lloyd Dunn, of Ionia, and a daughter, Mrs. D. N. Strange, of Grand Ledge; a sister, Mrs. John Moore, who lives north of Ionia; a brother, John B. Dunn, of Delphi, Ind., an three half-brothers, Frank Dunn, who is in the West; Silas Dunn, of Chicago, and Arthur Dunn, who lives near Grand Rapids. The funeral will be held from the residence Sunday morning at 11:30 city time. Rev. Charles J. Kruse will conduct the service. Burial will take place in the family lot at the Grand Ledge cemetery.
