December 11, 2025 Excerpts from Saranac Obituary ROBERT G. DUNTON Died Sunday December 7, 2025-age 92 of Saranac. Born July 25, 1933 in Grand Rapids,MI, son of Harold & Margaret (Alter)Dunton. Bob was raised in Grand Rapids, ran track & field there in High School & was a member of the Grand Rapids Athletic Hall of Fame. Bob played Clarinet in the school band. He joined the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. After discharge, he attended MSU & received his bachelors's degree in Soil Science.After graduating Bob began work as the County Executive Director for the Ionia County Farm Service Agency, then served as the Boston Twp. Supervisor for 26 years, retiring from the Ionia County Road Commission as the Vice Chairman. He was a Golden Glove Boxer in younger years. He was a respected Draft Horse judge, having judged over 125 shows in 10 States, including several State Fairs. He became the 9th inductee in the nation, into the Belgian Draft Horse Hall of Fame. A lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge. Survived by his children;Richard (Elizabeth) Dunton of Cedar Springs, Randy Dunton of Casnovia, stepchildren; Emmy (Chuck) Kinney of Barrington, Phil (Marilou) Vanderbilt of the Philippines & Veronica (Herb) Jones of Pierson, brother;Donald (Frieda) Dunton of Ohio, Granddaughter Emily (Ricky) Behm & many step grandchildren & great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his 1st wife Mary Jean & 2nd wife Beryl. Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at Saranac Community Church. Visitation Monday, from 1-8 PM at the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac & one hour prior to the Funeral service(10AM-11AM).
