Durkee, 82, a retired farmer of route one, Lake Odessa, died at 11:55 p.m. Tuesday at the Ionia Rest home where he had been a patient 22 days. Mr. Durkee was born in Odessa township February 14, 1878 and had spent most of his life on the farm on Jordan Lake road where he was born. He was the son of Lafayette and Lottie Chapman Durkee. His wife, Minnie died in 1939, he later married Mrs. Lula Loomis. Mr. Durkee resided at Barryton from 1933 until he returned to his farm north of Lake Odessa in 1943. He is survived by his wife Lula; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Maxine) Hubbard of Tampa, Fla., and Mrs. Berwin (Madeline) Stadel of route one Lake Odessa; one son, Hayden of Evart; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren three stepchildren, Gerald Loomis and Mrs. Ethel Beutler of Lansing, and Mrs. Betty Barker of Greenville; three sisters, Mrs. Arthur Leigh of Lansing, Mrs. Mildred Bouck of Grand Ledge, and Mrs. Donald Pearl of Traverse City, and one brother, Rev. Raymond Durkee of Williamston. Funeral services will be at the Pickens funeral chapel Friday at 1:30 p.m., with burial at Lakeside cemetery. The Rev. A.J. Pitman will officiate.
