Gaylord Durkee Dies at Missouri

Gaylord L. Durkee, 75, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away early Thursday 
morning at the Cox medical Center at Springfield.

He was born at West Sebewa, Ionia County, October 4, 1901 the son of Lester and 
Mary (VanHouten)Durkee.

He was first employed by the SS. Kresge Company in 1917 in Grand Rapids, also in 
Detroit and several other cities for 30 years. He later was employed by the 
Newport stores for 12 years retiring in 1972.

Mr. Durkee was a member of the Rotary club and the Chamber of Commerce and had 
been a resident of Springfield for 30 years.

Survivors are a son, David H. Durkee of Springfield and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 PM at the Pickens-Koops Funeral Chapel at 
Lake Odessa with burial in Lakeside Cemetery.
