ELLIS DURKEE DIES MONDAY
Ellis Ward Durkee, 73, a retired farmer of Berlin township, died Monday at the 
home of Mrs. Minnie McCoy in Ionia where he has recently resided since leaving 
his farm north of Lake Odessa.

Mr.Durkee returned Sunday from Florida where he had spent the past winter.

He was born April 2, 1970, the son Charles and Jane Durkee in Berlin township 
north of Lake Odessa. He attended business school in Ionia after the district 
school and he and his brother Don together ran a business in high bred stock. 
His home was the homestead where his parents settled.

Not long ago this farm was sold but he still retained a farm north of Lake 
Odessa and one near Sunfield.

He was one of the directors of the Union Bank here.  He was married to Bertha 
Gates of Saranac, and she preceded him in death nearly 15 years ago. Three 
brothers also preceded him in death. He is survived by a brother Charles 
Freemont in Ionia, and 15 nephews and nieces.

The funeral was held from the Wortley & Baine Chapel here Thursday afternoon, a 
nephew the Rev. Raymond E. Durkee officiating and bearers were other nephews. 
Burial was in Lakeside cemetery.
