Walter Durkee Passes Away

Walter Durkee, 81, retired farmer and lifelong resident of the Woodland area, 
passed away suddenly a this route 1 farm home at 5100 Barnum Rd. at noon Monday.


A native of Carlton township, he was born a half mile from his present home, the 
son of Lidous (Tid) and Sarah Durkee. March 20, 1912 he married Claire Rising 
and for the past 18 years they have spent their winters in Florida.

Mr.Durkee attended the Woodland Methodist church.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter Mrs. Clarence (Julia) Newbaum of Battle Creek 
and a grandson Pfc.Fred Newbaum stationed in Hawaii.

Funeral services are being held Thursday (today) at 2 p.m. at the Pickens 
Funeral Chapel with burial in Fuller cemetery, Carlton township. Rev. Richard 
M.VanderBosch is officiating.
