Lorna was born in Odessa Twp., Michigan on April 3, 1913 to Frank and Vera (Morrow) Sedore, and was united in marriage to Daniel Durkee on December 31, 1933. She is survived by her children, Donna (LaVon) Deatsman, Dawn Deatsman, Deane (Sharon) Durkee, and Dodie Denman; grandchildren, Greg Deatsman, Colleen Deatsman-Kelley, Caryn Love, Daryl Deatsman, Connie Messer, David Durkee, Paul Durkee, LeeAnn Gunnett, Lorren Denman, Dan Denman, Bryan Dye, and Jackie Denman-Green; 18 great grandchildren; 15 great great grandchildren; brother, Neil Sedore; sister, Doreen Shoemaker; and special faithful friend, Clara French. Lorna was preceded in death by her parents; Daniel Durkee, her loving husband of 68 years on November 18, 2001; brothers, Gail Sedore and Lynn Sedore; and infant sister, Doris May Sedore. Lorna spent her time caring for and giving to her family; she was the definition of a loving wife and devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She will long be remembered as a faithful Christian, giving of her talents to the First Congregational Church of Lake Odessa where she was a member. Lorna touched many lives with her love and kindness as she walked the path of her Christian life. She will also be remembered for her love of cats, as well as God's great outdoors and all His creatures. No one can forget her talents in cooking, especially baking chocolate chip and sugar cookies, hot cross buns, and cinnamon rolls. She took great pleasure in growing vegetables and preserving them, and enjoyed flowers and house plants. Lorna took particular delight in washing dishes and claimed she had done them since she was very little standing on a small stool at the family sink. She claimed the dishes talked to her! Her family will continue to remember her as well, for always listening and caring, humming tunes, and sharing a smile with all she met. Visitation will be held at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Koops Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Lake Odessa, or to the Ionia Area Hospice.
